In this first interview, find out more about Kinetic Analysis (South Netherlands) & WAVEUP (Nouvelle Aquitaine, France), who will be responding to most of the DIGIT-PRE challenges with their project “Pain and Gain”.
Could you tell us about the activity and the purpose of your companies?
With vast experience in both product development and contracted research, Kinetic Analysis is an established entity within the sports and (para)medical rehabilitation domain since 2012, having gained deep understanding of these area’s. Working closely with companies to validate the applicability, validity and effectiveness of measuring and treatment modalities in clinical contexts, we provide new market access for the pain registration solution. We have a proven track record of business development, with two spin-out companies in Belgium and Greece, specialized in sensor driven biochemical and physiological sensing of body signals.
WAVEUP creates digital solutions for assessing patient health, using scientifically validated indicators and advanced Machine Learning techniques to objectively measure pain and overall health. Their activities align with 6P medicine principles: Personalized, Preventive, Predictive, Participatory, Patient Journey Focused, and Evidence-based. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and collaborating with healthcare professionals, WAVEUP aims to enhance patient care and improve health outcomes.
What attracted you to DIGIT-PRE?
In the development of the pain registration solution WAVEUP, the next steps to go to market not only in France, but also outside of France, are difficult steps to take. While Kinetic Analysis can provide new market access, in the context of the digital transformation of health and care, the collaboration between WAVEUP and Kinetic Analysis could benefit from the DIGIT-PRE sustainable EU value network generated value chain. With the help of the DIGIT-PRE consortium, the go-to-market phase will be accelerated.
Could you describe your common project "Pain and Gain" in a few words?
In a close collaboration between the two project partners, it will be researched what the current usability of the pain registration system is outside of France. With the results, a more customer facing, and user centered approach will be incorporated. The aim of WAVEUP is to move towards a clinical CE graded platform for pain registration in care and research. This project will prepare all steps for clinical validation studies to be conducted where the application is used as a marketable and paid for tool by companies in the pain treatment industry.
What challenges have you faced so far when working with a partner from another country?
So far, we’ve encountered very few challenges while working together. Of course, the way each company works is different. However, scheduling regular meetings for clear communication and trying to maintain a good management of expectations keeps things aligned. We both have experience in working with people from other countries, being used to communicate in English and that helps a lot.
Finally, have you already taken part in a European project before? If not, what are your concerns? If so, why do it again?
Within Kinetic Analysis we have participated in multiple European projects, such as Interreg, Erasmus+ and Horizon before. Each European collaboration brings new valuable insights and the results have always been successful in a way, we believe it is worth it to collaborate with partners cross borders.
WAVEUP has not yet participated in a European project. Our main concern is navigating the complex regulatory landscape, which varies across countries.
