INTERVIEW #6 : Discovering DIGIT-PRE winners

In this interview, find out more about Euc Inovaçao Portugal (Norte Portugal) & Kinetic Analysis (HMD Group) (South Netherlands) who will be responding to the challenge of self-care rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders with their project “TwinRehab”.

Could you tell us about the activity and the purpose of your companies Euc Inovaçao Portugal and Kinetic Analysis (HMD Group)?

Euc Inovaçao Portugal has for some years now been investigating digital twin applications in various sectors (environment and forestry, industry, and health). The health sector represents the most complex but exciting challenge requiring the coordination of complex teams to replicate human organs and persons/patients. The reconstruction of complex human organs, such as knee articulations, is a scenario in which to invest all the experience gained through years of study and research.

The Human Motion Data Group supports businesses in solving complex problems accurately and efficiently. A strategic plan and decision are never risk-free investments. Still, now we can use science and technology to solve existing problems in a data-driven way. Innovate towards the golden goal and customize solutions based on the actual values and business needs. The HMD Group acts as a venture builder and in their portfolio is SportsLapp, a unique proposition that allows for accessible and accurate motion capturing that shows a great fit for the TwinRehab project.

What attracted you to DIGIT-PRE?

What attracted us to the Digit-Pre call was that by combining the two macro-areas that are congenial to us (health and digital) it allowed for an accelerated development of one of our projects in the area of musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Could you describe your common project "TwinRehab" in a few words?

TwinRehab aims to revolutionize pre-surgical rehabilitation for patients undergoing hip or knee arthroplastic surgery, leveraging cutting-edge digital twin technology and tele rehabilitation techniques.

What challenges have you faced so far when working with a partner from another country?

Although I am used to working with partners from different countries for my university assignments, it is always a discovery and a horizon-expanding challenge to fully share objectives.

Finally, have you already taken part in a European project before? If not, what are your concerns? If so, why do it again?

Yes, we participated and it is always exciting to share experiences and challenges. I would do it again especially as an entrepreneur because it allows you to enter more markets quickly and easily.
